Free Radical is a tough ocean cruiser that was hand laid up as a one-off custom hull. The hull was manufactured as one solid piece. What this means is no noise and no flexing underway, comfort all the way!
Jerry Cartwright, an accomplished ocean sailor, designed this enormously strong vessel that can be sailed by one or two people.
As an ocean racer, he also designed a vessel that has good speed for fast passages, comfort for 4-6 persons and all the amenities. This Cartwright has lived up to her designer’s intent.

This vessel is not a Tupperware costal cruiser; it is very strong, overbuilt, one-piece hand laid up hull with fibreglassed hull-to-deck joints and fully glassed-in bulkheads. A real Blue Water cruiser already in the Carribbean!
A strong hull means is no noise and no flexing underway. With a fine entry, she punches through waves easily and quietly. Her 10,000 lbs of encapsulated ballast allows her to take any wind the ocean can present.
This is one tough boat, providing comfort and safety all the way! She is sister ship to the famous Macintosh which has a reputation as a very fast racing yacht in Lake Ontario.
“Free Radical” is a real joy to sail. She has a flat, unencumbered deck and a deep aft cockpit for safety. Profurl roller-furling systems on both the 120% Genoa and the cutter staysail allows quick, safe changes of sail in response to the changing conditions. Two mainsails come with the boat. One is a full roach full batton sail suited for lighter winds. The olther is smaller and better suited for long distance Blue Water cruising in comfort. The mast has a Harken bat-car system which allows for easy hoisting, dropping and reefing of the mainsail.
With a custom interior and a great layout, there is plenty of room for comfortable living. There is sleeping room for 6 and two new electric heads. The forward private double cabin (with custom mattress) had its own head with hot/cold shower, and plenty of storage and locker space. The U-shaped settee around the salon table provides entertainment space. “Free Radical” was outfitted with long-term live-aboard and long distance cruising in mind. She is attractive and easy-to-maintain.
